Youth workers and Scouts joined forces on Saturday to clean up Cornwall Park.
The four Youth Workers are on a course with Workforce Development in Napier. Their mission, says Youth Work Tutor, Teresa Allen, was to work with young people and ask them what they want to do to help the community. She says it's important to give youth the opportunity to think about how they can be involved and what they can choose to do.
The scouts from Rata Olsen Scout Group chose to clean up Cornwall Park.
Teresa says the council does a good job cleaning it every day, but there was a build up of rubbish in the stream and treeline that was concerning the Scouts.
The four youth workers arranged gloves, rubbish bags and prongs from the council.
They and the 18 Scouts collected eight bags of rubbish during the afternoon. The youth workers provided a sausage sizzle, courtesy of Pak'n'Save, back at their headquarters in Duke St.
The Scouts' leader, Andrew Wilton, is also a trainee youth worker. He says the Scouts were working towards their community service badge and were keen to help.
JOB DONE: Members of Rata Olsen Scout Group & Workforce Development Youth Worker Students relax after their clean-up at Cornwall Park.
